Khyle Wooten '12 Selected For The Cleveland Institute Of Music’s Future Of Music Faculty Fellowship

"Leading a unique life in music, Philadelphia native Khyle Wooten is an educator, conductor, researcher, and composer. He has previously maintained posts with National Heritage Academies, Clayton County Public Schools, and the Walter D. Palmer School District where he led middle and high school choral ensembles.

Among his recent accomplishments, Wooten recently led a session at the 2021 Florida Music Educators Association conference entitled And Still They Rise: Exploring and Advocating for Choral Music of Black Women Composers. At present, his dissertation research will provide a conductor’s guide to the cantatas of Lena McLin. As a composer, he has completed an art song commission for the Cincinnati Song Initiative to be premiered in May 2021. Recent compositions include an SSA arrangement of Zenobia Powell Perry’s Spring Song and a TTBB choral work, Sancta Maria.

Wooten holds a bachelor’s in music education from Lincoln University (PA), a master’s in choral conducting from Georgia State University, and is a Ph.D. candidate in music education, with an emphasis in choral conducting, from Florida State University."
