Bennett College Hosts Entrepreneurship Institute for High School Women

From June 17, 2012 to June 27, 2012, Bennett College will host the annual Summer Entrepreneurship Institute (SEI), a residential program designed to prepare young women for business ownership. A selective program, the institute is reserved for 25 juniors and seniors from across the nation.

Within the last few years, business ownership is at an all time high. According to the U.S. Census, in 2011 women-owned companies generated nearly $1.3 trillion in revenue and employed 7.7 million people.

"Entrepreneurship has become one of our nation's lifelines," said Dr. Cynthia Clemons, director of entrepreneurial studies at Bennett College. "We're in a society where learning the skillset of business ownership and management has almost become a necessity."

For the young women of SEI, they'll be afforded an in-depth understanding of female entrepreneurship, packed into a ten-day program.

"SEI will give these young women the tools to build their interests in business ownership, further develop innovative ideas and realize that they should aspire to be the future business leaders of tomorrow," Clemons said.

Bennett College is partnered with The North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development, Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, N.C. REAL, the GTCC Small Business Center and the East Market Street Development Corporation. SEI has been an initiative of the College since June 2009.
