EWC Welcomes Bishop Adam J. Richardson as the New Chairman of the Board of Trustees
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Edward Waters College officially welcomed its new Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bishop Adam J. Richardson, Jr., on November 8 during a formal evening reception in the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports and Music Complex.
Bishop Richardson, who officially assumed the role after his appointment as Bishop of the 11th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in July, was welcomed by numerous faculty, staff, students, board members and community supporters. The reception also marked the official beginning of the Fall 2012 Board of Trustees Retreat.
After taking the time to meet and greet most of the supporters in attendance, Bishop Richardson was introduced by President Nathaniel Glover.
Bishop Richardson, a graduate of Florida A&M, Turner Theological Seminary and the Interdenominational Theological Center, excitingly delivered sincere and empowering remarks to the audience about his vision for pursuing excellence and continuing to emphasize the AME principles that the College was founded on.
Prior to his appointment to the 11th Episcopal District and the EWC Board of Trustees, Bishop Richardson presided over the 2nd Episcopal District, which consists of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He also served as an AME Bishop in West Africa from 1996-2004 and was the senior minister of Bethel AME Church in Tallahassee for eighteen years. Furthermore, Richardson is a credited contributor to numerous faith-based articles, books and other literary works.
Apart from his career in ministry, Bishop Richardson previously served as an adjunct professor at FAMU and an instructor at Morris Brown College and the ITC in Atlanta.
Bishop Richardson will hold the position of Chairman for the next eight years. He replaces former chairman Bishop McKinley Young, who served from 2004-2012.
