Bluefield State College News May 19, 2014 BSC RadTech Program Receives Continuing National Accreditation for the Maximum Eight Year Period The Radiologic Technology program at Bluefield State College has received official notification that it has been awarded continuing national accreditation for the maximum eight year period from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). In an April 30, 2014 letter to BSC President Dr. Marsha Krotseng, Deborah Gay Utz, Chair/JRCERT, noted, "The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology Directors and staff congratulate you and the program faculty for achieving the maximum award of accreditation from the JRCERT and wish you continuing success in your efforts to provide a quality educational program." The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the national agency for the accreditation of traditional and distance delivery educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. The program was evaluated according to the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiography (2011). "The Radiologic Technology program at Bluefield State College has worked very hard to provide documentation necessary for receipt of full accreditation approval," observed Angela Lambert, Dean of the BSC School of Nursing and Allied Health. "Maintaining full accreditation is important to the School of Nursing and Allied Health as well as Bluefield State and our clinical affiliates. Students are required to graduate from an accredited program in order to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technology examination. We are proud to continue our maximum awarded accreditation status and look forward to continuing to serve our students and the healthcare community with competent employees." "The accreditation process has reinforced that Bluefield State College and the Radiologic Technology Program are committed to excellence in education for the students who are admitted," added Melissa Haye, BSC Radiologic Technology Program Director. "The graduates have continued to excel in the workforce while furthering their educational endeavors in other modalities in the Imaging Sciences. I am very proud of our faculty, students and graduates. The JRCERT assists us as a program to strive for that excellence, and I am excited to maintain the accreditation status." The BSC RadTech program is taught at the College's Bluefield and Beckley campuses.
