Coahoma Community College News May 22, 2019 Gooden to Present on "Lessons Learned" during Domestic Violence Prevention Conference in Pennsylvania Kenneth Gooden, program coordinator for the Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT), will speak at a conference sponsored by the Department of Justice' Office on Violence Against Women. Three members of Coahoma's Community Response Team will join Gooden and other representatives at the OVW's Training and Technical Assistance Institute that will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 10-13, 2019, which is just a few weeks away. The Institute provides training to address and prevent sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking on campus. Panels will present to five different cohorts, which includes minority-serving institutions, community colleges and commuter schools, and consortia. During the community college session, Gooden will speak to personnel from institutions of higher education that have recently started working to prevent domestic violence with the aid of an OVW grant. He will offer useful information based on his experience with leading efforts in preventing dating violence during one of the five 'Lessons Learned' sessions. "I felt honored when I found out that TA providers in collaboration with OVW thought that I could provide valuable insight to share with new grantees about our program," said Gooden. "I have been selected to present with one other campus...It is a tremendous honor to share our experiences with the new grantees. I was in their shoes not too long ago, so I understand the difficulties of being a new grantee in a rural area with limited resources, trying to make a difference on campus." He was fortunate to have the support of strong CCC stakeholders looking to provide effective curriculum on gender-based violence. "These institutes are unique in that there will be grantees in their first year of their grant on-site as well as third year grantees," said Gooden. The grant program is geared toward properly approaching dating and sexual violence in order to effectively resolve such instances and ultimately eliminate the crime. SANDRA M.
