Good afternoon: The message below was sent to the libraries in Georgia by Merryll Penson, the Executive Director for Library Services for the University System of Georgia, to remind us of the close out date for ALS 2010. I thought I would share with you as well.
It is critical that we (HBCU Libraries) participate in the ALS as fully as possible. You may recall our Advocacy Pre-meeting event that was held before the start of our membership meeting in October. That pre-meeting event had as its' purpose a review of data submitted by academic libraries in the 2008 ALS survey. During our discussions several questions were heard about the survey and our 2008 responses. Because it is so important that we each have clarity about our response for this cycle, I encourage you to contact ALS or post your question to this discussion list where your colleagues can chime in and assist, or contact ALS directly.
Everyone should participate. Take care

Subject: National Academic Libraries Survey - ends February 28, 2011
Colleagues,
Just a reminder the Academic Libraries Survey ends on February 28, 2011. You should have already received letter(s) about this survey.
The quality of this national survey depends on your participation. The information is used for the Congress and state government for policy making. The data from the ALS are used to produce on-line reports and supplemental tables for the National Center for Education Statistics at the U.S. Department of Education. The Library Statistics Program web site at http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/libraries/ offers many resources for libraries, including the Compare Academic Libraries tool, which is an easy way to compare your library to other, similar libraries. The peer comparison tool is only available for libraries that respond to the survey.
If your institution has not registered or signed up, please do so. If you need your library's User ID and password, please contact the ALS Help Desk at 1-877-749-4925. If there is not 85% response rate, the survey does not produce valid results.
If you have questions about the survey, please contact Tai Phan at Tai.Phan@ed.govmailto:Tai.Phan@ed.gov.
Thank you.
