Alcorn launches a new freshmen scholarship and the Alyce G. Clarke leadership scholarship

Alcorn State University's new scholarship program awards scholarships to first-year Mississippi students who meet high school grade-point average and standardized test score requirements. In addition, incoming freshmen who demonstrate leadership qualities along with high academic achievement will be eligible to receive an additional scholarship.
The University is awarding a freshman scholarship to students that earn a 3.0 GPA or higher. Awards range from $500 to $3,000 based on ACT or SAT scores. The Alyce G. Clarke Leadership Award goes to high achieving students with a 3.5 or higher GPA. The leadership scholarship funds additional $500 to $2,000.
"With the introduction of this new scholarship program for first-year Mississippi students, it demonstrates the University's steadfast commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience at an affordable price," said President Dr. Felecia M. Nave.
"We're also honored and thrilled to name the leadership award for Rep. Clarke. She is the first African American woman to serve in the Mississippi Legislature and for nearly four decades, has never shied away from the issues impacting Mississippians," add Nave. "As a 1961 graduate, she truly embodies Alcorn's legacy of leaders and history makers."
The kick-off for the new scholarship program will be held at a press conference honoring Rep. Alyce Griffin Clarke at the state capitol building rotunda at 11 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2021.
Eligible students will be automatically awarded the scholarship upon admission. The scholarship will be awarded yearly for up to eight consecutive semesters or the first bachelor's degree. Scholarship recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and full-time status for renewal. The new award will be based on availability.
