Tennessee State University: Assistant Professor/Digital Reference and Embedded Librarian
Job Duties
Provides information/reference services to Library users/clientele via in-person, telephone, e-mail, and/or other platforms/formats
Works assigned departmental schedules which may involve some evening and/or weekend days, depending on staffing or program support needs
Conducts information literacy/library orientations as scheduled by Reference Department
Coordinates embedded library services for traditional/onsite, off-campus, online, and hybrid undergraduate and graduate courses in collaboration with teaching faculty
Maintains contact with teaching faculty and students in embedded courses via classroom visits, e-mail, and/or other platforms/formats
Develops strategies to market/expand use of Library resources and services via embedded library services
Prepares reports and statistical data of embedded services for Library annual report, program accreditations, and other documentation as required/requested
Schedules research consultations with students in embedded classes as required/requested
Facilitates access to E-Learn course management system and course materials by students
Adds/updates/monitors links to Library resources and services in E-Learn system
Collaborates with Reference/Library colleagues in development/updating of Library website and resource guides for users
Participates in collection development for designated University departments/programs
Serves on Library and/or University committees as assigned/appointed
Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Library/Information Science degree from a graduate program fully accredited by the American Library Association by August 1, 2018
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
Meaningful graduate coursework and/or previous experience with electronic and traditional/print information resources, reference/public/customer services, and/or electronic course management software/systems; experience with/sensitivity to a highly diverse group of users/clientele (undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, staff, administrators, and internal/external researchers); comfort level in establishing, developing, and maintaining collegial relationships in a University/academic setting; potential to meet University requirements for tenure/promotion in the areas of teaching/instruction/librarianship, research/creative activities, and University/public/community service. This position will involve considerable flexibility of availability beyond traditional work schedules, due to interactions with online/distance education faculty and students.
