Coahoma Community College News June 2016 CCC faculty, staff now more tech-savvy after summer program Some instructors like Lillie Grant haven't been feeling comfortable enough to implement Coahoma Community College's latest learning management system, Canvas, into their classroom. Now, she's already brainstorming several activities she plans to use with student via Canvas during the upcoming semester after attending CCC's first CCC Faculty E-Learning Institute. "I hadn't had any formal training, but I wanted to be just as effective at Canvas as the full-time instructors," said Grant, who serves as an adjunct English Instructor. "I've learned so much, like how to make assignments, discussion, quizzes and announcements, because of this program. I definitely will be using this in my classroom." Sponsored by CCC's Educational Outreach Department, the program offered free technology training everyday, June 13-22, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to faculty and staff in hopes of integrating more technology in CCC's classrooms. CCC Computer Science Information Instructor Jeremy Pittman led the 10-day summer program, which also offered participants CEU credits. "It's really been a pleasure working with my colleagues to help expand their knowledge of technology," said Pittman. In addition to Canvas, those in attendance received tips on using G-Mail, file management and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Although she was somewhat familiar with Canvas, CCC Practical Nursing Instructor Emily Gordon said she's now feels more proficient thanks to Pittman. "I've been really impressed with Mr. Pittman's learning style; he's patient, easy to understand and doesn't make you feel rushed," she said. "I'm so glad he taught this course, and I would encourage anyone, no matter their skill level, to attend this class." Pittman said the program plans to continue helping faculty and staff become more technologically savvy by hosting a, "Technology Chat & Chew" lunch session each month during the upcoming Fall 2016 semester.
