SACSCOC accredits first online bachelor's degree programs at Johnson C. Smith University

Metropolitan College offers Business Administration and Sport Management Online Degrees

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has just approved the expansion of the accelerated online bachelor's degree programs offered at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). Students enrolled at Metropolitan College can earn fully accredited accelerated online degrees in Business Administration and Sport Management with this approval.

Not only will the conferring of online degrees expand JCSU's presence as a new urban university but it will also provide a new tuition revenue stream that will strengthen the University's financial position.

"This is a historic moment for JCSU, and for the surrounding community," said Dr. Laura McLean, dean of Metropolitan College at JCSU. "We now have the unique opportunity to make it easier for our students to achieve their goal of earning a bachelor's degree," McLean added.

Students enrolling in the online Business Administration program can choose a concentration in Management or Accounting. The sport management program allows students the opportunity to combine sport theory and practical engagement in this discipline.

"This is an amazing opportunity for JCSU to share with the masses what we have been doing for some time for our traditional, on-campus students in the sport management major," said Dr. BerNadette Lawson-Williams, online sport management program coordinator and associate professor of Sport Management. "Our combined practical and theoretical approach to sport management sets us and our students apart," Lawson-Williams added.

In an article by Business Research Guide, JCSU was recently named as having one of the most innovative small college business departments in the U.S. The ranking considered progressive majors and/or course offerings, global business emphasis, and wow factor. The editors noted the out-of-the box teaching methods utilized at JCSU, highlighting its ability to prepare students to become industry leaders.http://www.businessresearchguide.com/50-most-innovative-small-college-business-departments/

"As an alumnus and now a professor at JCSU, I am so proud of our University as it provides education to those individuals near and far using technology to communicate, learn independently as well as collaboratively, and demonstrate competence in chosen fields," said Dr. Lucinda Blue, assistant professor of Business Administration. "Our University continues to embrace the adult learners who want to pursue their education but need the flexibility to do so."
