Greetings Colleagues,
I trust you're well today. Join me in welcoming Carmella D. Martin to Edward Waters College (FL) and the HBCU Library Alliance. Carmella was promoted to the position following the untimely death of her former boss, Ms. Vivian Brown-Carman, who served with distinction as Library Director of Edward Waters College from 2006 until she passed away on August 11, 2011.
Carmella is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She began her college studies as a Music Theory and Composition major at Jacksonville University. She went on to attend the University of North Florida, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Music.
While employed as a clerk with the Jacksonville Public Library system, Ms. Martin received a grant from the State Library of Florida to attend Florida State University, where she earned her Masters Degree in Library Science. After graduation, Ms. Martin returned to the Jacksonville Public Library system to launch her career as a librarian.
Carmella has 22 years of experience in the field of librarianship. During her career, she has had the good fortune to work in various aspects of the profession. In addition to being a public librarian, she has also worked as a school library media specialist, and in several academic library settings. Working at Edward Waters College is her first HBCU assignment, and it promises to be her most rewarding one of all.
In addition to being a librarian, Ms. Martin is also a skilled musician. She has over 30 years of experience as a pianist for various churches and other organizations in the Jacksonville area. She has also given beginning piano lessons to children and adults over the years, and still does so whenever her schedule permits.
Ms. Martin is proud to be a part of the Edward Waters College family, where she can give back to the very community in which she was raised.
Carmella has expressed interest and willingness to work closely with the HBCU Library Alliance. We look forward to her involvement in the important work we do to support HBCU libraries.
Send congrats to Carmella at:
