Howard University News Howard University Receives Two Sirius XM Radio Channels WASHINGTON (April 18, 2011) - Today, Sirius XM Radio granted Howard University licenses to create two channels on the satellite radio system. The historic lease represents a significant step towards diversifying the airwaves. Howard has been a trailblazer in broadcast media. The University currently owns and operates a commercial radio station - WHUR 96.3 FM and a digital station - WHUR-World. In addition, Howard owns WHUT-TV, the first African-American owned public broadcast station. One station will offer the best of WHUR and WHUR-World. The channel, which has not yet been named, will showcase signature programs such as the "Daily Drum," a news talk show highlighting the top stories and newsmakers; the "Sighlent Storm," the only show on radio devoted to tackling the issue of domestic violence, the "Dr. Audrey Chapman Show," the relationship guru who helps listeners to solve all of their romantic issues; and "Let's Talk Money," an hour-long program focusing on financial matters. The second station will be managed by Howard University, but will feature programming and talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities around the country.
