Webinar: The Black Book Interactive Project

Colleagues,

The Black Book Interactive Project webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6th, 3:00 – 400 ET and will introduce the project, its goals, partners, and members of the primary staff at University of Kansas (KU). Partnership opportunities will also be discussed. Follow this link https://hbw.ku.edu/black-book-interactive-project for more information on the project. The attached flyer was distributed at the October HBCU Library Alliance Membership meeting.

Specific discussion items will include:

·        Project origins, including National Endowment for the Humanities funded Phase 1 of the Project (2015-2016)

·        Fostering partnerships for research and building user networks

·        Selecting a group of 15 Back Book Interactive Project (BBIP) scholars by December 2018 – January 2019

·        Content of Training Webinar series

·        College Language Association (CLA) Post-conference workshop with demonstration of projects (HBW-Chicago Text Lab)

·        Summer Conference on the present and future of Digital Humanities

·        Second round of BBIP scholar selection by end of 2019

·        Final presentation of projects at College Language Association 2020

·        Options for next round of collaborative funding
Presenter details:

Brian Rosenblum is Founding Co-Director of the Institute for Digital Research in the Humanities, and Librarian for Digital Scholarship at the University of Kansas Libraries, where he has administrative, production and outreach responsibilities in support of a variety of digital initiatives and publishing services. Prior to joining KU Libraries’ digital initiatives program in 2005 he worked at the Scholarly Publishing Office at the University Library, University of Michigan, where he helped develop numerous electronic journals and digital scholarly projects.

Dhanashree Thorat (Ph.D. in English, University of Florida) is a postdoctoral researcher in Digital Humanities at the University of Kansas. Her research is situated at the intersection of Asian American Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and Digital Humanities, and her current work focuses on how Muslims use hashtag activism to intervene in public conversations about their racialized bodies. Dhanashree is a founding Executive Council member of the Center for Digital Humanities, Pune in India. She serves as the lead organizer for a biennial winter school on Digital Humanities, and advises the center on digital archival projects and DH curriculum development. ​

Arnab Chakraborty is a fourth year Ph.D. student at the Department of English, University of Kansas. He is also a project manager for the Black Book Interactive Project, part of the Project on the History of Black Writing, also at the University of Kansas. His research interests include post humanism, environmental studies and postcolonial literature.
