Delaware State University News April 2, 2016 Inspired Day of Service 2016 -- Photos Slideshows Delaware State University's Inspire Scholarship recipients refused to let the rain damper their core value spirits of "community" and "outreach" as they pressed on to take part in the University's 5th annual "Inspired Day of Service" on Saturday, April 2. More than 300 students took part in the community service event, fanning out to seven locations to give of themselves and represent DSU. Williams, SGA President Isiah Covington, as well Sandy Clark of the Delaware Prevention Coalition and Heather Griesser LaPierre of the Kids Against Hunger of Philadelphia, the student split up into seven groups to do community service work from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations: * Bellevue Community Center in Wilmington where students assisted with various projects, including a neighborhood cleanup around the center. * West End Neighborhood House in Wilmington where students participated in the Delaware Prevention Coalition Book Buddy Day and introduce young people to the wonders of Legos. * Greater Dover Boys and Girls Club in Dover where they did some spring cleaning at this site. * College Road in Dover where students took part in a cleanup project of that state road that runs south of DSU from Dupont Highway to Dover-Kenton Road. * MLK Student Center at DSU where students will be will be packing food in support of a Feeding the Needy project of the DSU's Division of Housing and Residential Education and the Kids Against Hunger organization to feed 10,000 needy Delawareans. * Students helped Habitat for Humanity do inside work at a house under construction on S. Kirkwood St. in Dover. * At the First State Community Action Agency in Georgetown, students helped administer a Community Fitness and Fun Day at the agency. DSU Inspire Scholarship students are required to do 10 hours of community service per semester. The annual Inspired Day of Service provides them with an opportunity to fulfill some of those hours. As in previous years, non-Inspire Scholarship students also participated in the event. SANDRA M.
