Shaw University News November 11, 2022 Shaw University has announced its next Neighborhood Meeting to discuss the process of reimagining its campus (also known as the ShawU District) to become Raleigh's premier urban university. Shaw University has been working since May on creating the ShawU District by convening a series of meetings to request thoughts, comments and feedback from the many stakeholders in Shaw's future, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, neighbors, friends of the University as well as any other interested parties. The first step in the reimagining process is Shaw's effort to rezone the university's downtown property to remove any development impediments, and to allow for greater flexibility and height to facilitate the growth and sustainability of Shaw in the future. This effort is vital given all the other development already occurring in the area surrounding Shaw's campus. The next Neighborhood meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 21, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This meeting will be held in-person at Shaw University in Estey Hall Auditorium, 1st Floor, at 118 E. South Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. The meeting is open to all. This Neighborhood meeting is required as a part of the rezoning application. Shaw University, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is the first historically Black institution of higher education founded in North Carolina - and among the oldest in the nation.
