Bethune-Cookman University Alumna Becomes New Dean of Education At University Of South Florida, St. Petersburg

Bethune-Cookman University Alumna, Dr. Allyson Watson, will take over as the new Dean of Education at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USF) starting July 1, 2017. Dr. Watson previously served as the assistant dean for the College of Education at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. While at Northeastern State University, Dr. Watson founded the Teaching & Urban Reform Network (TURN), a program to pair teachers who are new to education with top performing schools located in the Tulsa Public School District. Dr. Watson also serves as professor of the educational foundation and leadership and the Edding Endowed Chair for Urban Education, Outreach & Research.
Dr. Watson's accomplishments clearly embody our motto at Bethune-Cookman University, "Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve," by educating students and serving the community as she obtains a bachelor's degree in elementary education for Bethune-Cookman University. Dr. Watsons accolades continue as she has received the Mayor's Commission on Women Pinnacle Award, the "40 Under 40 Most Influential People in Oklahoma," the Gates Millennium Scholar Award, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Holmes Scholar Award.
Congratulations to Dr. Watson on all of her successes and endeavors, Bethune-Cookman University is proud to have Dr. Watson as a representative.
