Tuskegee University to celebrate International Education Week November 14-19

The Tuskegee University Global Office will celebrate International Education week 2016 with a host of exciting and international education events during the week of November 14-19. Started in 2000, International Education Week is celebrated worldwide and is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs that celebrates international exchange and international education efforts. On Monday, November 14, representatives from the Peace Corp will conduct an interest meeting for those wishing to join the U.S. Peace Corps.

On Tuesday, November 15, Captain Willie D. Billingsleahttp://www.tuskegee.edu/sites/www/Uploads/files/Events/Captain%20Billingslea's%20Bio%20%20(updated%204%20November%202016).pdf, the Commanding Officer for the Auburn/ Tuskegee University ROTC Consortium will be the guest speaker. The topic for his speech is "It's a Small Competitive World." Captain Billingslea is an aviator who has traveled around the world including the Middle East. On November 16, the Global Office will have a chat and chew in the cafeteria where students can meet TU international students from over 16 countries. On November 17, there will be a screening of the Japanese 2014 film Wood Job. This movie features Yuki, who after his girlfriend leaves him decides to join a forestry-training program.

On November 18, there will be a film screening on the life of world famous novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston. Her most famous novel was Their Eyes Were Watching God. On November 19, there will be a K-12 teachers' workshop and 125th birthday party for Zora Neale Hurston. Tuskegee University faculty, students and staff are invited to participate in these free events.
