JSU designated a military-friendly school

Jackson State University has been named a military-friendly school for 2018-2019, according to the recent list from Victory Mediahttp://victorymedia.com/what-we-do/. Now in its 17th year, the Military Friendly(r) Schools list has come to set the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. This prestigious list offers a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families using data sources from federal agencies, veteran students and proprietary survey information from participating organizations.

"We are pleased that Victory Media has recognized our efforts. We are extremely honored to be among other colleges and universities receiving the 2018- 2019 Military Friendly designation," said Dr. LaToya Reed, director of the JSU Veteran & Military Student Support Center.

"Our office takes great pride in serving our military affiliated students, as well as their families."

Institutions earning the Military Friendly(r) School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the school. Student survey data was also taken into consideration for the designation. More than 1,400 schools participated in the 2018-2019 survey, with 941 schools earning the designation.

Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Susan Powell expressed her excitement over the recognition.

"The Division of Student Affairs is committed to providing a high caliber of student support service and outreach." She said, "The staff in our military student support office does an exceptional job assisting soldiers and their dependents from admission to completion, and this is truly a reflection of their hard work and dedication."

The 2018-2019 Military Friendly(r) Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list can also be found at www.militaryfriendly.comhttp://www.militaryfriendly.com/.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Victory Media with input from the Military Friendly(r) Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution's survey scores with the assessment of the institution's ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
