ASU Researcher is Session Lead in Diversity Conference

Dr.  Manoj Mishra,  professor of biology and founding director of Alabama State  University's Cancer Biology Research and Training Program (CBRT),  will join the 2021 Diversity Program Consortium's (DPC) Annual Grantees Conference as a Session Lead.  The event is set for June 28-30.

Mishra's breakout session, which is June 29,  is on "Practical ways to link developing faculty research grantsmanship skills as a way to build institutional capacity for research and opportunities for students."

Platform speakers, moderations, panelists, breakout  session leads  and  consortium members, Mishra  said, will come from six time zones  to engage a diverse  biomedical  workforce through mentoring, training and working for change within their institutions. Participants also will learn about approaches to impact sustainable change.

"Notably, Alabama State University is a part of this consortium due to a $2.9 million grant funded in 2019 by  the National Institute of Health  (NIH) where I am the lead principal investigator. This grant provides mentoring interventions to more than 150 incoming freshmen STEM students each year at the ASU campus," Mishra said.

Funded by the NIH, DPC is a network of institutions to improve training and mentoring and to enhance individuals' success in biomedical research careers. The initiative aims to transform institutional culture and biomedical training and mentoring nationwide.
