North Carolina Central University News February 9, 2016 School of Education Leads in Percent Enrollment Increase Enrollment growth at the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Education expanded by 23.3 percent for the 2014-15 academic year, a significant increase in one year. Enrollment in NCCU's bachelor's and master's degree teaching programs grew by the largest percent of all Schools of Education in the University of North Carolina System. Overall, education programs across the system shrank by 27 percent between 2010 and 2014, sparking fears of a future teaching shortage. Master's program enrollment at NCCU increased by 62.5 percent - from 104 students entering in fall 2014 to 169 in fall 2015. Graduate programs experiencing the largest percent gains were Educational Technology, Special Education and Visual Impairment Training. Enrollment in bachelor's degree program grew by 8.9 percent - from 282 enrollees in fall 2014 to 307 enrollees in fall 2015. The Middle Grades teaching tract experienced the largest gains, followed by Elementary Education. The Educational Technology master's degree at NCCU was recently named by U.S. News & World Report as the best online graduate program at any Historically Black College or University and second-best among all institutions in North Carolina. The degree also ranked nationally as 17th out of 188 programs in the 2016 lineup for Best Online Graduate Education Program. The NCCU School of Education also offers degree programs in school administration; community; career and school counseling; communication disorders; and five concentrations in the field of special education.
