North Carolina Central University Welcomes New Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs
North Carolina Central University has named Arkansas Native, Dr. Miron P. Billingsley as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Billingsley began serving on Sept. 15.
Dr. Billingsley has more than 15 years of experience in higher education as a professor, dean, director and vice president. Prior to his appointment at NCCU, he served as associate vice president for student affairs at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas, a post he held since 2008.
At Prairie View, Dr. Billingsley provided vision, direction and review of student service operations. Under his leadership, he established a Counseling Center on campus, created a Veterans Center to recruit and retain military veterans and cultivated partnerships with all areas of the university to deliver seamless service to students. Additionally, Dr. Billingsley formed a Parent's Association and led Student Affairs through a successful reaccreditation self-study and campus evaluation visit.
Prior to joining Prairie View A&M, Dr. Billingsley served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Ark. He has also worked as an adjunct professor at Texas Southern University in Houston, Director of Training and Development for PeopleSoft at the University of Houston and Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Langston University.
In addition to his higher education experience, Dr. Billingsley served four years in the U.S. Navy as a radio man on the USS Bunker Hill.
"Under Dr. Billingsley's leadership, I am confident that the Division of Student Affairs will develop and maintain of an atmosphere conducive to total student involvement and success in co-curricular and curricular endeavors," said NCCU Chancellor Dr. Debra Saunders-White.
Dr. Billingsley earned his bachelor's degree in speech communication from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, a master's degree in telecommunications from Texas Southern University, and Doctor of Education degree from Oklahoma State University.
He completed post-doctoral studies at Harvard University Graduate School of Education and the Executive Leadership Institute through the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
"Education has always been a gateway," said Billingsley, who credits his mother Queen Esther Billingsley and grandmother Leona Lockridge with his success. "They both believed that education was the key to open all doors."
Dr. Billingsley is married to national bestselling author, ReShonda Tate Billingsley and is the father of four children.
