Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating the 1815 birth of Myrtilla Miner. A frail child, Miner spent her time absorbed in books and developed a love of learning.  She earned her teaching degree from the Young Ladies' Domestic Seminary, which had been founded in 1833 by the abolitionist Hiram H. Kellogg.  Miner moved to the South in 1846 to fulfill the obligations of her education-teaching plantation owners' daughters in Whitesville, Mississippi, at the Newton Female Institute.  It was there that she witnessed firsthand the horrors of slavery and vowed to teach young slaves how to read.
6th Biennial Membership Meeting Registration

Planning is underway for the 6th Biennial Membership Meeting, scheduled Sunday through Tuesday, October 26-28 at the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown.  The meetings' theme is "Transforming Libraries for the 21st Century and Beyond: Sustaining the HBCU Library Alliance" and speaks to our work ahead to address the needs of our libraries and this organization. The Membership Meeting is our opportunity to network, share experiences and strategize future directions.

Paste this link http://www.hbculibraries.org/html/2014meeting-form.html into your address bar to register as soon as possible. The registration fee of $300.00 must be received by October 11th.

Decade of Investment Strategy

As part of the Alliance's One Hundred Plan fundraiser, I encourage you to renew your support through the Decade of Investment strategy.  As you recall, the goal of this strategy is to raise a minimum of $30,000 over a three year period.  If you haven't done so, paste this link http://www.hbculibraries.org/html/paypal.html into your address bar to make your contribution.  Each contribution will be acknowledged at the October Membership Meeting and listed in the program booklet. If you are contributing by check, mail to my attention at:
