Shaw University News July 20, 2022 Shaw University Student Nakya Carter Selected to Intern with myFutureNC In July 2022, myFutureNC selected Shaw University student Nakya Carter to intern for the organization - along with other outstanding students across the state - to help develop messaging and utilize social media to reach students in North Carolina. Carter is a junior, double majoring in Business and Mass Communications. myFutureNC is a 501(c)3 non-profit that is focused on the state's educational attainment goal to have 2 million North Carolinians ages 25-44 hold a college degree or high-quality credential by 2030. Cecilia Holden, CEO and President of myFutureNC, said, "[Nakya] is an amazing young lady; and I have no doubt, her work will pay dividends for future generations to come." myFutureNC's mission is to prepare North Carolina for the future by empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and ensuring economic viability in a global economy. The statewide nonprofit organization focuses on educational attainment and is the result of cross-sector collaboration between North Carolina leaders in education, business and government. Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University, said, "Nakya Carter is an impressive young leader, and we are proud to congratulate her on being selected as an intern with myFutureNC." Shaw University, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is the first historically Black institution of higher education founded in North Carolina and is among the oldest in the nation.
