Albany State University hosts Teacher Education Fair

Professionally dressed students and alumni gathered Wednesday, résumés in hand, to speak to school district and agency representatives at the Albany State University Teacher Education Fair.

"Career fairs are perfect opportunities for students and employers to meet," said Tracy Williams, Office of Career Services director. Although student focused, Career Services also provides job search and graduate school preparation services to alumni.

"We are very excited about the opportunity for students and alumni to secure employment, make contact, and interact with potential employers, prior to graduation."

A number of systems and agencies throughout the state were represented - approximately 35 -  including The Bibb County School District in Macon, Ga., and the Lanier County School System in Lakeland, Ga. District agents from  as far  as Denver, Colo., and Kent, Wash., were also present.

"It's a quality event," Kathy Humphrey, associate superintendent of the Lanier County School System said. This was her fourth time serving as a recruiter for the education fair, she said. "The students that come in are prepared. You can tell that they have a quality education just in the way they present themselves."

"It's really beneficial," said Antonio Parks, a senior Middle Grades Education major from Atlanta. I met a lot of people, and I actually see opportunities that are available for me."

Representatives from the Dougherty County School System, where many ASU students complete their practicum and student teaching experience, also attended the event.
