Denmark Technical College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Valerie Fields as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Fields has an extensive background in education and has previously served SC State University as an associate professor of education, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.
Prior to joining SC State, Fields was executive director of Louisiana Campus Compact, a coalition of 26 Louisiana universities and colleges. In that position, she provided leadership and assistance to member institutions in integrating service learning, workforce development, and emergency preparedness into the college curriculum.
She holds a wealth of experience in the education area. Fields has worked as director of student development and as assistant dean for student life and leadership at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a reading instructor at Louisiana Tech University, a mathematics consultant in the East Carroll Parish School System and she has held various positions at northeast Louisiana area schools.
Fields holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a cognate in instructional technology from Louisiana Tech University, a master's degree and Educational Specialist degree in administration and supervision from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Southern University and A&M College.
