VSU presents alumni art exhibition
Virginia State University's department of art and design will present "Way Back When", a collection of 24 paintings, drawings, and sculptures by seven alumni and two former professors who were active in the VSU art program during the 1970s. The exhibition will be on display in VSU's Meredith Art Gallery from Oct. 29 through Dec. 5. The Meredith Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Harris Hall.
The exhibition will feature paintings by Gilmore McCoy (1978) and Gilbert Trent (1979), pastel drawings by Lorrain Bivens (1978), pencil drawings and watercolors by Ruth Jones Maclin (1978), sculptures by Steve Harris (1976) and mixed media works by Rondall James (1977) and Phyllis Coleman-Lacy (1981). Joining these alumni will be retired professors Doris Woodson and Eugene Vango, both presenting paintings.
An opening reception for the exhibition will held on Homecoming, Saturday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Meredith Art Gallery. The public is invited to attend.
Gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 9 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 5 p.m.
