Watch Live Stream: First Lady Michelle Obama to Visit Howard

A live stream of First Lady Michelle Obama's visit Howard University on Wednesday, Jan. 19 will be available on the State Department Web site.http://exchanges.state.gov/live-stream.html

Mrs. Obama will discuss the China State Visit, and the importance of young Americans engaging people around the world

The event will take place in Cramton Auditorium, 2455 Sixth Street NW. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Attendees must arrive by 9:30 a.m.

Supporting President Obama's "100,000 Strong" initiative, the First Lady will speak prior to an assembled student panel to discuss the benefits of studying abroad. Panelists will also share insights from their studies in China and will encourage the audience of students to study internationally.

Nicole Baden, a senior in the School of Communications at Howard University where she studies Chinese, Spanish, and Arabic, will serve as a panelist. Baden also participated in the Department of State's 2010 Critical Language Scholarship Program.

In 2009, the President announced the "100,000 Strong" initiative, a national effort designed to dramatically increase the number and diversification of American students studying in China.

The initiative seeks to prepare the next generation of American experts on China who will be charged with managing growing political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
