Morehouse College News Journalist Gwen Ifill and Law Professor Charles Ogletree to Give Commencement Address to the Class of 2011 By Add Seymour, Jr (April 7, 2011) -- Journalist Gwen Ifill and law professor Charles Ogletree will both address the class of 2011 during the 127th Commencement ceremony at 8 a.m. on May 15, President Robert M. Franklin has announced. Ifill is an award-winning veteran journalist and host of PBS' "Washington Week," while Ogletree is a civil rights attorney and Harvard Law School professor who taught both President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Ifill and Ogletree will give their commencement addresses to more than 500 graduating men of Morehouse, who will march across the Century Campus in front of a crowd of 10,000 parents, family, friends and alumni. "With these two venerable change agents as speakers, Morehouse continues to serve as a forum for thought leaders and decision makers in the global marketplace of ideas, and thereby honor the legacy of our esteemed former presidents, as well as the shared aspirations of our alumni, faculty, staff and supporters," Franklin said. Ifill and Morehouse trustee Billye Aaron, will receive the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters while Ogletree and Morehouse Board of Trustees chairman Willie "Flash" Davis '56 will receive the honorary Doctor of Laws. Aaron, the wife of baseball legend Hank Aaron, is heavily involved in local non-profit organizations and was the first African American woman in the Southeast to co-host a regularly scheduled talk show. Davis is a former star athlete at Morehouse who is now a prominent attorney and partner with Davis, Robinson & Malloy, LLC in Boston.
