Coahoma Community College May 3, 2019 Nursing Assistant & Phlebotomy Graduates Celebrate Program Completion The short-term Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy programs of Coahoma’s Health Sciences division recently awarded 38 graduates certificates of achievement. Phlebotomy instructor Bobbie Thomas gave graduates some farewell advice for continuing to advance to other health-related careers. Among other goal-oriented tips, she urged them to identify their goal, maintain a positive attitude, upgrade their knowledge and skill, and to reward their successes. Willie Lockett, Ph. D., director of Coahoma’s Respiratory Care program, delivered the keynote address. After acknowledging family, friends, instructors, administrators and public officials who were instrumental in supporting the graduates while reaching the end of the program, he told the graduates to pat themselves on the back and say, ‘Job well done.’ He enlightened the graduates with motivational words. “You see, graduates, life is a journey,” Lockett said. “A course that you set is determined by the choices you make every day.” He told them there’s no such thing as avoiding wrong decisions in life. “No matter how we try to make positive decisions on a day-to-day basis, there will always be challenging days,” he said. “It’s during times of success that people will know your name, like tonight. But it’s during times of trouble that people will know your character.” With Phlebotomy grads dressed in maroon scrubs and white lab coats and Nursing Assistant grads in light blue scrubs along the center of the Pinnacle, Lockett left them with an inspirational quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. He made them honorary carpenters. “This ceremony signifies that you’ve started to rebuild or remodel your future by completing this groundbreaking process which has laid the foundation for your future success,” said Lockett. After graduates walked across the stage, Josephine Rhymes, executive director of the Tri-County Workforce Alliance, recognized 13 high school students who completed the CNA and Phlebotomy programs through the Tri-County program.
