The HBCU Library Alliance is pleased to announce that George Mason Universityhttps://www.gmu.edu/ (GMU), in partnership with the National Museum of African American History and Culturehttps://www.si.edu/museums/african-american-museum (NMAAHC), is offering a second round of two full scholarships for the Smithsonian-Mason Graduate Certificate in Digital Public Humanitieshttps://masononline.gmu.edu/programs/digital-public-humanities-graduate-certificate/ for HBCU Library Alliance members in good standing. The scholarships will pay all tuition costs for the program and include a paid internship with NMAAHC. Candidates for the scholarships must either have at least three years of professional experience in a field related to public history (including librarian/archival work) or have completed two semesters in an M.A. or Ph.D. program in a humanities field.

Last year, Kathy Anderson, Library Director, Philander Smith University (AR) and Monica Evans, Ph.D. student, Clark Atlanta University (GA) received the scholarships!

Those who wish to be considered for the HBCU-NMAAHC scholarship should complete the attached HBCU-NMAAHC Scholarship Information Formhttps://d101vc9winf8ln.cloudfront.net/documents/46293/original/HBCU-NMAAHC_Scholarship_Program_Information_Form_4-14-23.pdf?1681501500 and upload the form to the "Optional Documents" section of the Smithsonian-Mason Graduate Certificate in Digital Public Humanities application. A George Mason University committee will make selection decisions. The application finish-line is May 1st.

A sample George Mason University (GMU) application is attached for your convenience. Follow these steps to begin the application process:

2. Select the application labeled "Degree Seeking and Accelerated Masters" and choose the "Digital Public Humanities Program" option from the drop-down menu.
3. Upload a copy of your unofficial transcripts and resume to the application portal.
4. Upload a Goal Statement.
5. Upload your completed HBCU-NMAAHC Scholarship Information Formhttps://d101vc9winf8ln.cloudfront.net/documents/46293/original/HBCU-NMAAHC_Scholarship_Program_Information_Form_4-14-23.pdf?1681501500 to the Optional Documents section.

The Department of History and Art History at George Mason University, in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, has created a fully online asynchronous Graduate Certificate in Digital Public Humanitieshttps://historyarthistory.gmu.edu/programs/LA-CERG-DPH. The program trains students in the digital skills and tools that are increasingly essential to careers in education, public history, libraries, publishing and many kinds of government and non-profit work. This 15-credit program consists of three online courses followed by a remote internship with a unit of the Smithsonian Institution. Because it is both online and part-time, students can pursue it while working or attending another graduate program. The certificate can also be combined with George Mason University's History M.A. programhttp://historyarthistory.gmu.edu/programs/la-ma-hist.
