North Carolina A&T State University News April 2016 Wabash-Provost Scholars Co-led National Workshop at Wabash College North Carolina A&T State University faculty members (and Teagle Assessment Scholars) Drs., Karen Hornsby, Scott Simkins and Galen Foresman along with N.C. A&T undergraduate students and Wabash-Provost Scholars Breanna Beard and Christopher Watkins recently co-led a national workshop, "Students Engaging Students to Improve Learning: Using Student-Led Focus Groups to Gather and Make Sense of Assessment Evidence," in March at the Center of Inquiry at Wabash College in Indiana. Ten institutional teams from across the U.S. participated in training sessions about developing and running student-led focus groups and building on the experiences of the N.C. A&T Wabash-Provost Scholars Program. The groups also created plans to share with key campus leaders and constituencies in order to implement focus group-based assessment projects at their respective institutions. The Wabash-Provost Scholars Program, first developed in 2008, trains A&T undergraduate students to conduct focus group sessions, surveys and other assessment activities aimed at improving the learning environment at the university. These students work alongside faculty and administrators in guided campus inquiry conducting a variety of activities including developing focus group and survey questions, collecting and analyzing data, summarizing findings, sharing their results with the university community and presenting on their research experiences at conferences. In addition, they have served as invited external assessment scholars for other universities, conducting focus groups and reporting on their findings. SANDRA M.
