Nature of Work:
Collection Development/Acquisitions/Archives Librarian
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Administers the selection and purchasing of all books, subscriptions, memberships, and government documents.
Coordinates the investigation and evaluation of workflow enhancements using new technologies to ensure efficiency and effectiveness with the library's automated system.
Provides leadership in the implementation of Voyager Technology related to acquisitions processes.
Works with service-oriented staff and works closely with Library Assistant assigned to the department to provide oversight for the major acquisitions functions.
Writes and maintains procedures documentation and oversees student assistant and staff training in acquisitions and collection development.
Facilitates the process of acquiring specific electronic products by communication with vendors and consortia, defining access options and equipment requirements, arranging tests and demo sessions, and managing license negotiation and compliance.
Creates a New Books Listing for all departmental purchases and gifts.
Monitors library collection expenditures and provides fund accounting and budget information to the Library Director.
Fosters and maintains communication with subject specialist, campus students and faculty, departments and vendors.
Participates in bibliographic instruction planning and development
Makes presentations to student faculty and community groups explaining library programs and services; answer reference questions, conduct required research on difficult and complex questions.
Maintains statistics for Title III Funding and other library related reports
Serves as a library liaison to one or more academic departments for the purposes of collection development and library instruction.
Assist library director with special projects and research as related to ASU curriculum and ASU Archives.
Develops and implements goals related to the University's strategic plan, the Academic Affairs goals and library goals that are measurable and specific.
Responsible for the daily operation of Archives, preserve and make available these records to users as requested.
Works with Library Assistant in Archives to insure that archival information is input into the Ram Scholar Repository.
Must work nights and weekends and participate in the opening rotation and closing library schedule.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
An ALA-accredited MLS degree is required. Some library experience in acquisitions of books or serials. Knowledge of the publishing industry. Demonstrated supervisory experience and project leadership skills. Budget and accounting skills related to the management of the library materials budget. Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and workflow analysis. Aptitude for handling complex, analytical work and the ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines. Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to clients; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels and with people of culturally diverse backgrounds; and potential to excel in a dynamic academic library environment, demonstrating flexibility, initiative, creativity, and determination. Experience with the OCLC and Voyager systems; experience working directly with applications of integrated library systems; bibliographic knowledge of at least one foreign language; and professional experience with the acquisitions of electronic resources, preferably in the areas of licensing, purchasing and processing is preferred.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook Express, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Access
Experience in Collection Development and Electronic Databases
Proactive interaction between faculty and students
Advanced knowledge of library information systems and services; in-dept knowledge of Internet and www; demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to work collaboratively
Strong interpersonal skills
In-depth experience in collection development practices
Strong technology skills including experience creating web pages
