NASHVILLE (TSU News Service) - From the boardroom to the classroom, the Dell Visiting Professor Lecture Series, "The Power to do More," is heading to Tennessee State University Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Wednesday, Nov. 2.
During the series, Dell Inc.'s distinguished and prominent executives will come into the classrooms to share their personal work history and experience while providing the opportunity for open dialogue between the executives and the students.
The visiting professors for the series will include Pat Brand, Executive Director of Accounting; Denise A. Nelson, Senior Marketing Manager; Bernhard Preiss, Technical Mentor, Product Services; and Vince McElhaney, Global Repair Engineering Director.
This will be the University's second year to host the series. Last year, the series was hosted by the College of Business, and brought in a group of Dell executives whose area of expertise was comprised of different business disciplines. This year, the lecture series will reach a broader student audience by serving in the College of Engineering.
"We began our relationship with Dell through the Supply Chain Governing Board in the College of Business," said Lisa Smith, Director of Supply Chain Management. "Now, the University is proud to be a Dell Core School. The Dell Visiting Professor Lecture Series is one of several key components to this growing relationship. We know the students are looking forward to hearing industry insights, especially on technology and strategy, which is a significant part of the education-to-career transition."
Since both Dell and TSU are committed to excellence in education through traditional and creative methods, this series will bring in the realistic and practical aspects of the work environment to students. The Dell Visiting Professor Lecture Series has been established to promote good synergy between the company and TSU that will continue to forge a positive relationship.
"We're excited for the event," stated William Lewis, Dell University & Diversity Relations. "It gives our professionals a chance to give back in a very positive way".
Additionally, Dell and TSU have partnered to begin a Dell Targeting Recruiting Event where Dell will be scouting students who are majoring in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, and Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Some of the University's top students with these majors will be interviewed for Dell's Accelerated Leadership Program (ALP) and Product Group (PG) Systems Management Software Intern. These opportunities will be presented to students at the Dell's recruiting visit that will be held November 15-16.
