SUMMARY:
The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library seeks a vibrant, innovative, and dynamic Library Technical Assistant. Working with the Digital Services Department this position is responsible for digitizing and creating metadata for original archival materials using a variety of high resolution scanners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Digitize a variety of original archival materials (documents, manuscripts, photographs and negatives, bound volumes, publications, audiovisual materials) following professional standards and best practices.
Ensure quality of master images, edit images as needed, and create derivate images for access purposes.
Provide access copies of digitized archival materials to support Archives Research Center patron requests, for digital and physical exhibits, and other projects as necessary.
Assist with building digital exhibits and preparing digital materials for ingest/upload into institutional repositories.
Calibrate and maintain all equipment in the digital lab.
Edit, update and/or create metadata for digital content following archival best practices and standards and institutional procedures.
Provide information assistance to users at service points on a rotating schedule including evenings and weekends
Assist with the printing of reproductions for exhibitions
QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with archival digitization standards and best practice
Experience operating a variety of scanning hardware and software
Experience using image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop
Experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Understanding of library metadata structures and standards such as MODS, Dublin Core, EAD.
Effective analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Ability to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree or equivalent years of service.
Two years of relevant experience.
PREFERRED:
Familiarity with digitization of audio and video formats
