Trenholm State Achieves SACSCOC Accreditation
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees announced on December 9, 2014, in Nashville, Tennessee at the 2014 SACSCOC Annual Meeting that H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College has been granted accreditation.  SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites that award associate or higher degrees.
This decision comes after the college was granted candidacy status toward accreditation in June 2013 and then participated in an on-site visit in September 2014, during which the on-site visiting committee gave the highest possible evaluation with no recommendations or need for follow-up during their visit. Overall, the team was very impressed with Trenholm State Technical College.  As a member institution of SACSCOC, Trenholm State has demonstrated that it has quality academic and support programs and is accountable to the SACSCOC standards through a peer-reviewed evaluation process.  Furthermore, Trenholm State has demonstrated a commitment to the core values and research-based standards of the Commission: integrity, continuous quality improvement, peer review/self-regulation, accountability, student learning, and transparency.
Receiving SACSCOC accreditation is essential to the continued success of Trenholm State.  Significantly, for Trenholm State, having accreditation means current and future students have access to affordable and quality educational programs, credits that will transfer to other colleges and universities, and academic degrees that are valued highly among employers who take into consideration the accrediting agency of the institution.  New students, current students, and families of students can now trust more than ever that the education they are paying for at Trenholm State is valuable and worth their time, money, and effort.
The institution will seek approval from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) and SACSCOC to offer associate of science and associate of arts degrees.  Administrators, faculty, and staff are committed to ongoing compliance with SACSCOC accreditation standards and continuous improvements of the institution.
H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College.
