Clark Atlanta University News June 8, 2021 Clark Atlanta University partners with Google Arts and Culture Clark Atlanta University partners with Google Arts and Culture to Explore Atlanta culture in a new interactive online project Visit g.co/exploreatlanta<http://g.co/exploreatlanta> Today Google announced its partnership with Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and 29 other world-class Atlanta institutions to bring the city's culture -past and present -online on its Google Arts & Culture platform and app at g.co/exploreatlanta<http://g.co/exploreatlanta>. For the first time, everyone everywhere can engage with these organizations-including Clark Atlanta University-across the city in one digital location and discover its unique culture. As travel and tourism opens, Google Arts & Culture hopes Atlantans will be reminded just how much their city has to offer and that visitors will be encouraged to discover the city for themselves. Clark Atlanta University, which sits in the heart of downtown Atlanta, is a major part of the city of Atlanta's history and culture. "Clark Atlanta University has a long-standing history of enhancing, enriching and shaping the culture of Atlanta, from fine arts and performing arts, to key sociopolitical moments, such as the Atlanta Student Movement," said George T. French Jr., Ph.D., president of Clark Atlanta University. "We are proud to partner with Google Arts and Culture Atlanta to share Clark Atlanta's important contributions and stories with art lovers, aspiring students and historians around the world." Clark Atlanta University contributes archival materials from parent institutions, Atlanta University (est. 1865) and Clark College (formerly Clark University, est. 1869), reflecting more than 150 years of historic contributions to the Atlanta arts community and beyond. Highlights include public art works installed on campus that were commissioned for the 1996 Olympic Games, the Art of the Negro mural series by artist and Atlanta University faculty member, Hale Woodruff; and rare West African sculptures from the private collection of CAU Trustee Emeritus Carl Ware CC'65 and Mary Ware CC'71. Atlanta is the first city in the American deep south and fourth in the U.S. to be featured in Google Arts & Culture's global initiative to capture and share the unique culture of cities. Along with Kansas City, Milwaukee, and Charlotte, Atlanta joins European cultural hubs on the platform including Milan and Naples, Italy, Lyon, France, and Hamburg, Germany.
