Miles College President Resigns and To Assume Presidency of Clark Atlanta University

The Board of Trustees of Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama has accepted the resignation of its President, Dr. George T.
French, Jr., effective August 31, 2019. Dr. French is the 14th President of the school, which was founded in 1898. He has been at
Miles College for over twenty-three years, first as the Director of Development and then as President since 2005. His fourteen-year tenure as president is one of the longest in the history of the college. Under Dr. French's leadership, the school has experienced growth in enrollment, academic excellence, fiscal stability, capital improvements and expansion of the campus and championships in a variety of men's and women's athletics. Miles College is an accredited, historically black, liberal arts college with approximately 1700 students.

The Chair of the Board, Dr. Teresa Jefferson-Snorton expresses gratitude to Dr. French for his stellar leadership: "Dr. French's
visionary leadership has been a blessing to the Miles College family. We will miss his presence, insight and acumen on issues and strategies for higher education. We wish him the very best as he assumes the Presidency of Clark Atlanta University!"

The Board of Trustees will be meeting over the next several weeks to manage the leadership transition. An interim President will be named in August. A search for a permanent president will be conducted during the 2019-2020 academic year.
