Delaware State University News July 9, 2018 DSU Welcomes Delegation from Changchun Univ. of Sci. & Technology DSU recently welcomed a delegation from Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST) of China, a visit that assured a continuation of the eight-year partnership between the two institutions. DSU President Wilma Mishoe and other University officials met July 3 with CUST Vice President Su Zhongmin and her delegation to discuss the first enrollment of CUST students at DSU in the fall of 2018 as part of an optics studies agreement that was originally reached in 2014 and renewed upon the recent visit. The agreement enables CUST students majoring in Optical Information Science and Technology to spend their first three years at their home university, and then spend their senior year at DSU completing the major. At DSU, the CUST students' academic experience will include studies and research in the Optical Science Center for Applied Research (OSCAR) Building on campus. After a meeting and lunch with the DSU officials, CUST officials - which in addition to Vice President Su included Dr. Jin Guang-Yong, dean of the Science School; Zhang Yining, dean of the College of Foreign Languages; Dr. Xu Yanping, director of Academic Affairs and others - toured the OSCAR Building to see the technology and the facility that their students would be exposed to at DSU. Since the original 2014 agreement, 24 CUST students have completed their first three years of this program at their home university and will travel to DSU to begin their senior year in the fall of 2018. Upon completing their final year, the students will receive degrees from both CUST and DSU. According to Dr. Fengshan Liu, DSU associate vice president of International Affairs, in the subsequent years beginning in the fall of 2019, the University can expect to enroll 50-60 CUST optics seniors in the program. DSU and CUST originally signed a cultural enrichment agreement in 2010, an accord that has brought about 70 CUST students to DSU apart from the optics degree agreement, Dr. Liu said. The July 3 visit by the CUST officials was on the heels of Dr. Mishoe's 10-day visit to China, which included a June 24 trip to Changchun University of Science and Technology. Accompanying Dr. Mishoe on that trip were Dr. Devona Williams, DSU Board of Trustees chairperson; Antonio Boyle, vice president of Strategic Enrollment; Dr. Fengshan Liu, associate vice president of International Affairs; and Carlos Holmes, director of News Services.
