Dr. Angela Peters Selected for UNCF Leadership Program
The United Negro College Fund announced that Dr. Angela Peters, chair of the Department of Chemistry, has been selected to participate in the UNCF-360 Leadership and Coaching Project supported by the American Express Corporation.
"This is a remarkable opportunity for me to grow personally and professionally as a leader," said Peters. "I would like to thank the UNCF for selecting me for this program. It will be wonderful to bring the knowledge I received from the UNCF-360 project back to Claflin."
The program's objective is to provide professional development for leaders who have a great deal of potential to take on progressively more responsibility with individualized coaching.
Peters will be joined by 14 men and women from institutions across the nation in the program. She began work in the program earlier this month and she will participate in workshops and coaching sessions in Atlanta. The program will conclude in March.
Claflin President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale acknowledged Peters as a strong leader on campus. "The dedication to scholarship and teaching demonstrated daily by Dr. Angela Peters is the embodiment of what Claflin University stands for. She has been a transformational force in developing young scientific minds and advancing critical research. Dr. Peters is an outstanding member of our University family and we congratulate her on this achievement."
Peters is also chair of the South Carolina section of the American Chemical Society and a past Governor's Professor of the Year. She arrived at Claflin in 2001. Peters earned a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina and has completed the management development program at Harvard University.
