Dr. Carla Hayden, the first woman and first African American to lead the Library of Congress, will address about 325 graduates and their families at the Bowie State University commencementhttp://www.bowiestate.edu/commencement/ on Friday, December 16 in the Leonidas S. WHO:

The commencement speaker is Dr. Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress who previously led the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore for more than 20 years.
Bowie State will also recognize one of its oldest alumni. Born in 1917, Nina Clarke, of Rockville, Maryland, is a retired educator, author and historian who was the first African-American supervisory resource teacher in the Montgomery County school system. She graduated from Bowie State in 1937.
