Colloquium on Performance-Based Assessment Set Feb. 26 at UVI; Open to Public

Education professor Dr. Nancy Morgan will present results of research and student work related to the growing trend of performance-based assessment during a colloquium from 1:15 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the University of the Virgin Islands. The session will be open to the University community and the general public. It will be held in North West Wing Room 103, on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, and available in Teacher Education Room 101, on the St. Thomas campus.

According to Dr. Morgan's abstract, the recent adoption of Common Core State Standards by the Virgin Islands Department of Education, along with 47 states, is indicative of a trend that has been in play for decades, and student assessments are now being developed for each content area, and for the language arts. "As students enter undergraduate education, we may witness more homogeneity in skills, and knowledge-based content," she explained. Her presentation will include a visual journey describing the process and the product as one approach to achieving the alignment of national standards, instructional objectives and a performance-based assessment.

The session is part of the UVI Colloquium and Working Paper Series which is designed to inspire intellectual discussion and promote scholarly research and publication across various disciplines, as well as encourage networking among individuals in their respective fields.

All UVI academics and researchers, as well as administrators and graduate students, are invited to submit research proposals or full research papers for presentation at future colloquia. Manuscripts in the form of research proposals or full research papers should be submitted via email to Dr. Gabriel Ogunmokun, chair of the UVI Colloquium and Working Paper Series, at gogunmo@uvi.edumailto:gogunmo@uvi.edu or ogunmokun@academyofworldbusiness.commailto:ogunmokun@academyofworldbusiness.com.
