Metadata Practices at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library: a Case Study

Instructor: Josh Hogan, Metadata & Digital Resources Librarian

Wednesday, November 1st, 2:00 ET

Description: Presentations on creating and maintaining metadata often focus on following best practices and standards without providing real-world examples of metadata in action.  See how the rubber meets the road at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library in this two-part case study series on digitization and metadata.  In this session we will explore how AUC Woodruff Library has implemented metadata best practices in the context of actual digitization projects, creation of digital exhibits, and the building and maintenance of an institutional repository.  Additionally, you'll learn how AUC Woodruff Library has documented metadata practices, collaborated with Archives staff to improve processes, and begun the process of preparing metadata for long-term digital preservation of digital objects.

Learning Outcomes: After completion of the sessions, participants will have gained:

  1. Understanding of metadata best practices and implementation in real world systems

  2. Knowledge of the AUC Woodruff Library's approach to documenting metadata procedures

  3. Insight into the importance of metadata for long-term preservation of digital assets.

Instructor: Josh Hogan is the Metadata & Digital Resources Librarian at the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library.  His research interests include linked data, digital preservation, digital humanities, and scholarly communications.
