Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture faculty awarded over $3.3 million in funding
Virginia State University School of Engineering, Science and Technology and School of Agriculture faculty members have been awarded grants, contracts and scholarships, totaling over $3.37 million, aimed at curriculum development, service learning, research, and financial assistance. The awards came from highly competitive funding agencies, government, and industry, including the National Science Foundation (NSF); National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA); National Institutes of Health (NIH); Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA); Dominion; US Department of Transportation; Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA); and MeadWestvaco. The specific award information is as follows:
W. Weldon Hill, Ali Ansari, Jahangir Ansari, Engineering; Krishan Agrawal, Mathematics and Computer Science: "Implementation Grant: Trojan STEM II-Moving from Restructuring to Implementation," National Science Foundation, $1.75M.
Singli Garcia Otero, Eshan Sheybani, Engineering: "Establishing an Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Curriculum Incorporating NASA Related Research," VSU was one of 14 institutions/partners to receive a Curriculum Improvement Partnership Award for the Integration of Research (CIPAIR) project to increase STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning for minority students, NASA, $449,956.

Hui Chen , Kostadin Damevski, Ju Wang, Mathematics and Computer Science; Reza Rafie, Christopher Mullins, Agriculture: "MRI: Acquisition of Sensing and Computing Equipment for Smart High-Tunnel Greenhouses," National Science Foundation, $230,662.
Dawit Haile, Hui Chen, Shuhua Lai, Mathematics and Computer Science: "Developing a New Information Technology Curriculum at VSU," National Science Foundation, $200,000.
Kostadin Damevski, Mathematics and Computer Science: "Developing High-Level Programming Abstractions for Hybrid Hardware Platforms," Thurgood Marshall College Fund/NASA, $130,000.
Eshan Sheybani, Engineering: "Wavelet Based Filter Banks for Super-Resolution SAR Imaging," Thurgood Marshall College Fund/NASA, $130,000.
Karen Faison, Nursing: "Service Focused Special Congressional Initiative," Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA), $99,000.
M. Omar Faison, Biology: "Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA)," National Institutes of Health (sub-award from VCU), $92,675.
Edem Tetteh, Technology: "Understanding Energy Conservation through Service Learning Projects," Dominion, $40,000.
Pamela Leigh-Mack, School of Engineering, Science, and Technology: "Scholarship Awards," Advancing Minorities in Engineering (AMIE)/NAVSEA Scholarships, $20,000; MeadWestvaco Scholarships, $10,000.
Ali Ansari, Engineering: "Dwight David Eisenhower Fellowship Program," US Department of Transportation, $20,500.
