Colleagues,

I trust you're well. As I've previously shared, Northern Illinois University, in partnership with the HBCU Library Alliance, was awarded an IMLS grant to host five Digital POWRR ( Preserving digital Objects With Restricted Resources) institutes. These institutes offer training to librarians and archivists at small and mid-sized institutions to build skills for curating and preserving digital collections.

HBCU Library Alliance members are invited to apply to the fourth Digital POWRR institute hosted at Northern Illinois University in Naperville, IL.  There is an application process with HBCU Library Alliance Board representation.  Access this link  http://digitalpowrr.niu.edu/institutes/http://digitalpowrr.niu.edu/institutes/ for more details and travel scholarship information.

The application finish line is October 5, 2018. Applicants will be notified of application status by early November 2018.

Apply now to the Digital POWRR Institute!

The Digital POWRR team invites your application to the fourth two-day day institute; to be held on January 31-February 1, 2019 at the NIU-Naperville campus in Naperville, Illinois. Travel scholarships are available for those with financial need.
The ideal candidate for a POWRR institute is a colleague who fits some of these descriptions:

  1. works in a "boots on the ground" role (this could be any range of positions in the cultural heritage sector, but the idea is that your primary role is not one as an administrator),

  2. exposure to basic digital preservation concepts, and will benefit from training with moving from theory to practice,

  3. represents or serves historically underrepresented populations,

  4. navigates basic computing environment and will benefit from instruction on more intermediate concepts,

  5. requires funding for professional development training,

  6. works directly with digital materials, and who can work with POWRR instructors to start to create an assessment document on digital preservation readiness at your own institution, and

  7. benefits from being a part of a small cohort of professionals and will put forth effort into sustaining these professional connections after the end of the Institute
