Employees and Students Honored at ACCS Conference
Students and employees were honored during the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) 26th Annual Conference recently held in Birmingham. The Chancellor's Award Ceremony is designed to recognize college employees who have demonstrated outstanding professional service, creativity, and a dedication to community service. Through the Art Exhibition, students and employees of the ACCS are allowed the opportunity to showcase their talents and creative ideas.
Gadsden State Art Department faculty and students earned five prestigious awards including two "Best of Show" awards, which are the highest honors. Art instructor Dennis Sears and Wesley Reid of Attalla received "Best of Show" in the employee and student categories respectively. In the sculpture category, Mario Gallardo, art instructor, won third place for employees and art student Henry Juarez of Steele was awarded first place. Elysia Stephens of Glencoe placed second in the drawing category for students.
Dr. Valerie Richardson, vice president, was nominated as the College's outstanding administrator. Mario Gallardo and Dale Hill, director of student services, were nominated in the faculty category and Tim Heard, security manager, was nominated in the support staff category. All nominees and award recipients were presented a plaque for their service and accomplishments.
