North Carolina Central Universityhttp://www.nccu.edu/'s (NCCU) online master's degree program in Career Counselinghttp://www.nccu.edu/curriculum/details.cfm?id=94 has been named by bestcounselingdegrees.nethttp://www.bestcounselingdegrees.net/ as one of the top 10 online master's degree programs in student affairs and college counseling.

To determine the rankings, a program's score is calculated using data reported by the Institute of Education Sciences' College Navigator. Regional accreditation with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEAhttp://www.chea.org/) and tuition cost are also included as ranking factors.

"North Carolina Central University is very pleased to see one of our online academic programs receiving recognition; it is our goal to continuously seek ways to create access and offer quality education for students both in the classroom and online," said Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye, NCCU provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. "The flexibility of NCCU's online graduate programs allows students to obtain the next level of education while adhering to life's demands."

NCCU's Career Counseling Program is designed to prepare students to work as career development professionals with clients of all ages in a variety of settings. These settings include: career services offices in colleges, universities, community colleges, K-12 public and private schools, nonprofit organizations, as well as private companies.

"These rankings affirm the positive results of our continuous efforts to cultivate scholars and top-notch practitioners," said Dr. Audrey W. Beard, interim dean of the NCCU School of Education. "Students receive advanced instruction conveniently online while also gaining the advantages of a premier NCCU education."

The degree, offered through the NCCU School of Education,http://www.nccu.edu/soe provides students with the opportunity to gain critical counseling skills through three five-day on-campus residencies. During their residencies, students develop relationships with peers and faculty and extend those relationships through online learning.

NCCU offers several distance education options, including courses leading to the Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist certification. The university is piloting a grief-counselor certification course through distance-education that has been endorsed by the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
