Succession Planning, Let's Get Ready! Thursday, March 29, 1:00 ET
Dr. Consuella Askew, Rutgers University (NJ)

Session Description and Take-Aways: An increasing number of "Baby Boomer" librarians and library staff members are either exploring their retirement options or retiring. Succession planning can be mission critical to retaining institutional/organizational knowledge, ensuring smooth transitions of personnel at all levels within the library organization, as well as maintaining consistent levels service and operations.

Session Take-Aways:

  1. Distinguish between succession planning and succession management
  2. Describe the succession planning process
  3. Identify key elements of a succession plan

Presenter: Dr. Consuella Askew is currently Director of the John Cotton Dana Library for Rutgers University Libraries. She was formerly the Associate Dean for Public Services at Florida International University Libraries. Dr. Askew spent several years working as the LibQUAL+ (r) Program Specialist with the Associate of Research Libraries. Throughout her 20 years as a librarian and as a library administrator, she has worked in a variety of library settings including academic, school and public libraries. She received her MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her EdD in Higher Education from Florida International University.
