"Lunch and Learn" Workshop Addresses Concerns of Healthy Eating

Have you tried to incorporate healthy eating in your diet, but seem to always give up? Does it look as if all the delicious foods are never healthy? The College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Sciences at Tennessee State University may just have the answer to your taste buds and a healthier diet.

The department will hold a two part "Lunch and Learn," workshop addressing the concerns of healthy eating. The workshop will be centered on the UDSDA dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 and will focus on the importance of health promotions and disease prevention as ways to address the obesity epidemic plaguing society.

"Poor diet and physical inactivity are the most important factors contributing to an epidemic of overweight and obesity in this country," said nutrition education specialist Leslie Speller-Henderson. "Even when we are not overweight, poor diet and physical inactivity are associated with the major cause of diseases and death."

An interactive workshop, part one will be held on August 16 and will address the topic of "Building Healthy Eating." While part two is scheduled for September 13 and will focus on "Making Healthy Choices."

Hosted by Speller-Henderson and Rita Fleming, the health education specialist for TSU, both parts of the workshop will be held on the main campus in the Farrell-Westbrook Agricultural Complex at noon.

For more information on the workshop, please contact Leslie Speller-Henderson at lspeller@tnstate.edu or Rita Fleming at rfleming2@tnstate.edu.
