SC State Defeats Other Notable Universities at National Business Case Competition
SC State University students in the School of Business won third place, claiming victory over several other distinguished colleges and universities in the 2016 National Black MBA Association's (NBMBAA) Undergraduate Minority Business Case Competition. The competition was held during the National Black MBA Association's 38th annual Conference and Exposition in New Orleans, which convened Oct. 13 - 15.
Capturing a $5,000 prize, the students who competed are Omari Richards, a junior management major; Quinn Smith, a senior marketing major and Matthias Williams, a junior marketing major.
These young men contended with 15 other schools with confidence and tact, and represented SC State with resilience and pride.
Indiana University won first place, North Carolina A & T State University achieved second place and Clark Atlanta University took home fourth place.
Other schools that competed in the competition are Claflin University, Purdue University, Carnegie Mellon University, Washington University, Florida A & M University, Lane College, Ohio State University, Harris-Stowe University, Southern University A&M College and Xavier University.
Teams were given a month to analyze a complex business case, showcase their problem-solving skills and present their findings before a panel of executives. Judges visited from leading corporations and academic institutions from various regions of the country.
SC State students' case comprised of Under Armour's expansion of its market share in 2014 to include women's sports apparel.
Ellen Ricoma, Masters of Business Administration director at SC State, coached the team throughout the competition.
