Drake State Community and Technical College May 24, 2016 Drake State Hosts International Visitors for Global Ties Alabama J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College hosted two delegates, one from India and one from Pakistan, for Global Ties Alabama recently. Global Ties Alabama manages various programs designed to bring the international community and the citizens of Alabama together to participate in world-wide conversations on important issues. These programs address the concerns of foreign visitors and local residents and the many similarities they share, as well as of the many differences that make the world such a fascinating place. The delegates were Ms. Uzma Gul of Karachi, Sindh and Mr. Manbor Warjri of Shilong, Meghalaya. Ms. Gul is Official Master Trainer at Welfare Web. She conducts sessions with the youth of different cities throughout Pakistan, creating an awareness of their role in political development. She helps youth understand policy making and all matters related to the political scenario of the country. The highlight of her work is to train the youth of PML-N, the current political party in government. Ms. Gul is a graduate of the political party development program (PPDP) and training of trainer's (ToT) from NDI. For her services in political development, she was presented the "Young Women of Excellence 2014 award" by Mrs. Nafeesa Shah, Member of the National Assembly. She was nominated as one of the "50 Influential Females Pakistan 2015" and has currently been selected again for "Emerging Young Women Leader 2015" for her political strengthening services as a youth activist. Mr. Warjri in General Secretary to the Indian National Congress Party, Vice Chairperson of the Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council and Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator at Sankardev College in Shilong, Meghalaya. Mr. Warjri, is a party organizer, champion for youth and a professor of political science. He has worked for years on election campaigns for the Congress Party in the state, which is located on the strategic India-Bangladesh border and home to a tribal population on hilly terrain. He is the son of Meghalaya Home Minister Roshan Warjri. As Vice Chairperson of Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council, Mr. Warjri is in charge of skills development for youth. He is also associated with a number of social organizations working on sports and cultural activities for tribal youth, and therefore has a wide network across social segments. He holds a Master of Art's in Political Science from North Eastern Hill University. Dr. Nicole Barnett, Dean of Student Support Services at Drake State, also serves as a member of the International Diplomatic Corp for Global Ties Alabama and often tours delegates for her Legislative Fellows. She stated that "The delegates were interested learning about Drake State's Adult Education and Career Technical Education offerings. A short video of about the college, followed by a tour of the campus proved to be a delightful and informative experience for the visiting international delegates." SANDRA M.
